da Leuchttürme meistens zwischen ziemlich und total abgelegen gebaut werden, wurde um 1870 die Reise Bibliotheks Kiste eingeführt. Die Idee war denn Wärtern
und evtl. Ihren Familien ein klein wenig mehr Unterhaltung zu bieten.
Auch um so, die nicht zu unterschätzende Gefahr der Einsamkeit
für den menschlichen Geist zu schwächen.
In der Kiste konnte man alles finden wo mit der Arbeit zu tun hatte, aber auch Literatur oder Reiseberichte aus fernen Ländern, Biographien e.t.c.
Ca. alle 3-6 Monate wurde die Kiste ausgetauscht. So das man immer wieder neue Unterhaltung hatte. Auf der Innenseite war eine Liste mit allen enthaltenen Büchern angebracht.
